Hinge Rolls Out New Prompts for LGBTQ+ Daters
With support from GLAAD, the dating app designed to be deleted is releasing new Prompts as a part of its ongoing advancements to enhance connections in the LGBTQ+ community this year
January 13, 2022 - Today, Hinge is releasing new Prompts, or conversation starters for profiles, specifically for LGBTQ+ users. With support from GLAAD, Hinge introduced the Prompts to help LGBTQ+ people better connect based on similarities, interests, and compatibility.
The new Prompts include a range of icebreakers to empower people to better express themselves, such as “I wish I could tell the younger version of myself,” and “the first TV character I ever identified with.” Under their profile settings, daters in the LGBTQ+ community can select which Prompts they want to display on their profile to tell their story and connect with others.
“Hinge is proud to be the first dating app to introduce Prompts specifically for the LGBTQ+ community. We believe this is a great opportunity to help LGBTQ+ daters better express themselves on their profile and connect in a meaningful way,” said Michelle Parsons, Hinge’s Chief Product Officer. “Our mission is to create the most welcoming, intentional, and effective dating app where everyone can find love, and we’re constantly looking for ways to elevate that experience for our queer users.”
The introduction of the Prompts is a part of Hinge’s ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive app for all daters. In October, Hinge introduced an updated algorithm — the system that recommends daters to each other — to help non-binary daters better represent themselves while connecting with others. Hinge offers more than 50 gender options for users to select within the app, and gives users the ability to write in their gender. To further drive self-expression, the company also added pronouns and sexual orientation options to display on user profiles earlier this year.
Hinge firmly believes that everyone who wants to find love should be able to and is continuously investing in supporting LGBTQ+ daters with finding meaningful relationships. The app plans to continue to source feedback from LGBTQ+ users for ways to enhance the Hinge experience and help everyone find the one deleting the app for.
